Well, I wrote my first blog post for Glitter & Grandeur in early January 2016… Now I’m writing post numero dos and it is Valentine’s Day… I’m on a roll. Granted, I have an excuse. It is ironic that my first post was about accepting life’s changes because in the time since I wrote that blog, I have been diagnosed with a really fun autoimmune disease called vasculitis (specifically HSP). Later on, I’ll write a post about what that process was – well, is – like, but for today, I’ll just tell you the basics.
My case of vasculitis was caused by my immune system freaking out in response to a bad case of strep that I had in the fall. Essentially, my immune system attacked my blood vessels causing them to become inflamed. This made my arms and legs to break out with bumps (technically ulcers – gross, right?). My doctors are thinking that this is not a chronic case and, that with proper treatment, I will be better in a few months. This being said, it’s been a rough time for me. So forgive the lack of posts.
Now, the real point of this post.
I’m not writing this to throw a pity party for vasculitis. Instead, this post is a revision of what this blog will be about. Due to being sick, I’m not transitioning into the professional actress/musician chapter of my life this year. That is okay. I will still be able to write about theatre and performing. It will just be from the eyes of a student for a little longer.
But I have decided that this blog will predominately be a source of inspiration – a chronicle of how to live to be a better version of yourself. How to take life’s curveballs in stride. If you haven’t realized it already, this will be a hodge-podge blog – lots of different topics. But that’s what life is! It’s a hodge-podge of stuff thrown at you. You just have to figure out how to balance, handle, and survive it. It is way too easy to get turned around and lost. It is so much better to take the turn and strut in a new direction. Turn the negativity into motivation to make yourself better.
I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason – you just have to find it. So, I will be writing more frequently now (I promise) and I hope some of you find your light in the dark through this blog.
Now, do yourself a favor and go listen to “Glitter and be Gay” from Candide. Now, don’t JUST glitter and be gay. Glitter and be GRAND.
