Well, it’s Monday again. You officially survived last week! Hooray! I hope you had a restful weekend and are ready to tackle the week!
I don’t know about y’all but last week was crazy and this week is crazier. Busy doesn’t even begin to describe it. It has gotten to the point where I have had to plan out every minute of my week – seriously. Look at this schedule!
Okay, okay, I have some holes in there but those will be filled with blogging, studying, practicing, grocery shopping, cleaning, etc. I have been out of food for a week! Seriously. It gets dark so early here and I hate doing a big grocery run alone in the dark – doesn’t feel safe. I’d rather eat fast food than have a scary encounter in a parking lot. But that’s just me. 🙂 I’ll go to the store in the next two days – I’m running out of Poptarts.
I like being busy, though. I mean, free time is great but I feel guilty after a while if I am not being productive. Hard work pays off.
Next week is much less stressful. When I make it through this week, everything with be sunshine and lollipops. I’ll have one week of work and then I get to relax and celebrate the holidays. So it really isn’t all that bad.
This week wouldn’t be as stressful if all of my tasks weren’t in different places (each color on the calendar represents a different location – except blue and purple, those are both on campus). It really isn’t too much work – there is just travel involved. And you all know that when you are in a hurry, you are destined to hit every single red light and traffic jam on the way. It’s just how life works. 🙂
So, how do I stay sane when my schedule is so busy?
I get organized.
I have the calendar made up, to-do lists on paper, to-do lists in my phone, outfits picked out – you name it, I’ve done it. Flashcards have been made for finals this week so all I have to do is flip through them a few times and I’ll be ready for the test. I prepared earlier this month to avoid stress at this point – plus I’m a quick learner. Any time an idea or task pops in my head, I jot it down in my phone.
I have learned that I function much better if I write things down. If I have a to-do list (or three) written down, I don’t need to worry about forgetting to complete a task. If I don’t write things down, I can’t stop my brain from constantly going over what needs to be done. When that happens, I can’t focus on my current task and nothing gets accomplished – plus, I don’t sleep. If I write things down, I can focus on one task at a time and sleep like a baby. Is anyone else like that? Or am I crazy?
Maybe I’m not explaining this well. My point is that organization can turn the craziest of times into a breeze.
Benjamin Franklin says it best:
My to-do lists may look unachievable at first but the time I spend writing everything down, saves me even more time of doing things in a stressed-out, irrational order making everything take twice as long.
Organize tasks so you are being time efficient.
If you have several tasks on one side of town, plan to do them all in one day. Don’t make 5 trips across town throughout the week. That adds too much travel time. Plan to do it all in one trip.
Multi-task when you can.
You can get a lot done while you are waiting on laundry. Go over your study materials in your head while you dry your hair or get dressed. If you are put on hold while making a phone call, dust or tidy up your home. The ability to multi-task is a great skill to have.
Automate whatever you can.
Bloggers, schedule your posts and social media in advance. I’m a little behind on that this week but I will make up for it when I do laundry. 🙂
Plan your outfits the night before.
I don’t know about you but I am not a morning person. It takes me forever to get out of bed in the morning and I move super slow. Picking out my outfit the night before saves me at least 5 minutes in the morning.
Write things down.
If you write it down, you don’t have to worry about forgetting it later.
These are just a few of my organizational tips. They will save me so much time this week. I hope they help you just as much.
Do you have a crazy busy week? What tricks do you use to keep organized? Tell me about it in the comments!
OH! I almost forgot –
I’m trying to find a good (inexpensive) 2017 calendar. I want monthly pages and daily/hourly pages. What do you all recommend? Comment below and I’ll be forever grateful! Thanks, loves!
